The ‘Queen of the Shrubs’ or lilac is the symbol of first love. The flower also symbolises love and the joy of youth. What makes this flower a stand-out in the garden is its scent. It is most fragrant when the sun is out. Because of this, it is used as a fragrance to perfumes and soaps.
Its flowers are available in shades of pink, purple, blue and white. It gets its name from the French and Spanish word of the same name. In Arabic, the flower is called ‘lilak’ which refers to the light purple colour of its flowers.
